    JOB SUMMARY
    This position will work with the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo (MPFR) Board, the Grand County Fairgrounds Manager and the Grand County CSU Extension Office in the production of the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo and provide direct assistance with the Grand County 4-H program. This position requires full time hours, which may not be within the standard work week, and may require evening and weekend hours.
    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
    • Provides support to, and coordinates efforts with, the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo Board, the Fairgrounds Manager, Grand County CSU Extension, volunteers and other County staff related to the annual Middle Park Fair and Rodeo.
    • Attends MPFR Board meetings, MPFR Sale Committee meetings, and facility walk-throughs and represents Grand County.
    • Maintains financial records and processes vendor payments for the MPFR Board.
    • Coordinates and manages contracts for the MPFR Board and the Board of County Commissioners.
    • Assists in coordination, contracting, and recruitment of vendors for the MPFR.
    • Assists in coordination and recruitment of MPFR sponsors.
    • Assists in coordination and recruitment of MPFR judges.
    • Assists in coordination of animal tag ins for the MPFR.
    • Assists in coordination of volunteer and 4H fairground cleaning events.
    • Assists in coordination and clerking of the Junior Livestock Sale.
    • Assists with the set up and coordination of all fair events, including animal shows, the Junior Livestock Sale, Exhibit Hall events, horse shows, archery and shooting events, etc.
    • Assists in the planning, organizing, administrative work and managing of all events at the MPFR.
    • Oversees and monitors the work of volunteers who provide services during the MPFR.
    • Identifies potential risk and safety issues during event planning; develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure volunteer and participant safety; designs and develops activities to meet insurance and safety requirements.

    • Assist with communications and social media posts regarding the MPFR and the MPFR Board.
    • Assist with review and creation of the MPFR rules, fair book, and schedule.
    • Order ribbons and awards for the MPFR Board.
    • Enter data in Fair Entry and other software programs as may be needed.
    • Provides updates to the Manager’s Office and Board of County Commissioners as needed.
    • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience:
    High school diploma or general education diploma (GED); and two (2) years of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Training and/or experience with event planning, County Fairs, and 4-H programs preferred.
    Special Qualifications:
    Possession of a valid, State of Colorado driver’s license. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. The employee will be required to travel to other locations within and/or outside the County, which may require some overnight stays and may include driving a county or personal vehicle.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Skill in administrative tasks, written communications, and basic office computer usage.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively in front of groups of people and employees of the County.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the MPFR Board, the public, volunteers, supervisors and other County employees and officials.
    • Ability to acquire subject matter expertise in specific functions, programs and special projects, including the laws, regulations, policies, and procedures applicable to the assignments.

    • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments.
    • Ability to review work for accuracy, clarity, and readability; maintain organized and complete files.

    • Knowledge of principles and practices of youth program development, marketing, and administration.
    • Knowledge of principles of public administration, organization, and management.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods of project planning, organization, and time management.
    • Knowledge of best practices for attracting, motivating, and retaining volunteers working in youth development programs.
    • Knowledge of safety practices applicable to a wide variety of youth enrichment activities.
    • Knowledge of principles and methods of team building, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
    • Knowledge of effective techniques for speaking before groups and making public presentations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, this position also requires the ability to regularly talk and hear; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; taste or smell; use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and to adjust focus.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    This is a hybrid position with remote work and office space within a County facility. The employee is exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration.
